Speeding Tricks For windows

utilitycentre.blogspot.com

This is a common problem with all computers. As days passes, the computer becomes slower and slower. The problem is more irritating to computer gamers, because games always require good speed. As most of people know it, computer becomes slower because of temporary files and processes that keeps on being added to the computer. There are many software that are available out there in the internet, and claims to fix the computer speed. But all of them work in same principle – to close unnecessary services and free up the computer memory (RAM). The fact is, you can manually find and close these service yourself, to free up the computer memory and processor.
Below are some points that you can do to close the unnecessary services that automatically get started.
Changing Start-up services:
This one is the most basic approach to close unwanted processes. Go to start menu, click on run. Then type “msconfig”, obviously without quotes. If you are having windows 7, then you can directly type it in the search box provided in the start menu. After typing, hit enter, and a small configuration window will open. From there, go to “startup” tab. Here you will see many process names. The names that are ticked are the one that starts automatically upon system start. So , just read process names one by one , see its manufacturer and conclude whether the process is a third party process or not. For example, you may see process created by idm or orbit or any downloader. In case such third party processes are marked for auto start, unmark them and save the changes.
Killing unwanted processes manually:
There are some processes that don’t start automatically, but once started, they continue to stay on memory even if you have clicked on close button from applications window. To manually kill such processes, open task manager using shotcut ctrl+alt+delete. Then go to processes tab. There you can see all the processes that are currently allocated on memory. You can also see the size of these processes. So in order to free up the RAM, read the name of process one by one, read who has created the process. If your user name is written as the creator of process, then there are great chances that it’s a third party process, and can be killed safely. But remember, if “system” is written as the process creator, don’t kill it. It may cause problem with your current session and you may need to restart the computer to make everything normal again. So, once you have decided which process is to be killed, then just select it with a single click, and click end process? You can also end any non responsive program almost instantly by “killing/ending process” than “ending task”. To do it, when a program becomes non responsive, open task manager, you will see “not responding” in front of non responsive application. Right click on it, and click on go to process. You will be taken to that application’s process. Then simply click on it, and click end process.
Making windows look and feel more basic:
If you have used your windows in safe mode, you may have noticed that it runs much faster in that mode, and the appearance is set for fastest performance. But we cannot always use safe mode ,this is because , in safe mode , all the services are by default stopped , which means you can’t connect to internet , can’t connect usb devices and can’t even hear a song from system ! The themes and effects implemented in windows also take a part of memory. So closing these themes and effects will free up the memory.  But there is a way to change the appearance to basic one, which gives maximum performance.  To do this, right click on the “my computer” icon and go to properties. Go to Advanced system settings and a small dialog window will open. There in the “advanced” tab, there will be first section called “performance”. Click on settings under this section. Another small dialog window will open, that contains a list of all theme effects of system. You can choose which effects to keep and which to close. Alternatively, if you want to close all the effects, then just choose “adjust for best performance” option above the list. Save the changes to take effect.
Changing page size/Virtual memory:
A virtual memory is a part of hard disk, which is treated as RAM by our system virtually. By default, the drive that contains the operating system files is used as the dive for virtual memory. The size of part of drive that will be used as virtual memory is also fixed. So changing the size of virtual memory, and allowing more drives to be used as virtual memory help sometimes. To do these changes, again right click on the “my computer” icon, go to properties, then advanced system settings and open advanced tab. Again click on performance button. Same dialog window will open. This time, go to “advanced” tab of this window. Here, you can see the size of virtual memory currently allotted by system. Click on change button to adjust it. Another window will open, and a check box will be by default checked on it. Ticking this check box tells system to manage all the things automatically, so uncheck the box. Now you can set which drives are to be included as virtual memory pages, as well as size of these pages.
These are a few steps to clean the RAM by adjusting the appearance and killing the processes. But in order to clean the hard disk, I suggest using external software method only. Deleting files manually might accidently delete some crucial file and may cause system failure.
