If you have a rooted android, then perhaps titanium backup is the most must have application for you. The name suggests that it is an application to make a backup of android applications in system, but it is much more than this.
The most interesting feature of titanium backup is the "freeze app" feature. It means you can simply freeze some of the processes that keep one running in background no matter you need it or not. The most annoying for me is the software update and mail processs, as i never update through them nor check mail from default apps. So, I just freeze them. In this way, they are not uninstalled from system, but are removed from memory. Although titanium backup is able to uninstall any application from system,; whether system application or user application, but its a better idea to freeze them to avoid any accidental malfunctioning. This feature is not available in free version, but here is the full version of it to use it.
